I have recently began to describe my sense of style as ‘The Sensible Magpie’.
I understand that at this point you may think that I have lost my marbles, but bare with me.
Earlier this month, I was interviewed by one of my favourite Dublin boutiques; Carousel. One of their questions sought for me to define my sense of style.
As someone who was born with the ‘gift of the gab’, one would think that such an explanation would come easy to me. It didn’t.
Having literally sifted through my wardrobe for inspiration, I realised that it was overflowing with wardrobe basics such as blazers, pencil skirts, shirts, shorts, denim, biker jackets, blouses and statement tees.
While this may seem a little drab and perhaps dull, buried at the back of my wardrobe is a leopard-print vanity case that is brimming with accessories.
There are so many that it probably verges on ridiculous but I can’t help being drawn to sparkling statement jewellery, silk scarves with baroque prints, hats rimmed with faux fur and of course, a fake fringe!
I guess one could say that the vanity case is the nest where all my magpie-finds are stored.
What did I choose?
A beautiful bangle with gorgeous crystals that looks like it’s wearing me, rather than me wearing it. You’re not really surprised though, are you?
It catches the light beautifully and is the perfect accomplice to my bronze Alex & Ani bracelets!
I was hugely impressed with the service provided by the Drogheda-based jewellers, I was consistently updated about the transaction, particularly in terms of processing and posting the bangle. It’s also pretty great that the company offer free postage on their products!
I’m not sure if I have mentioned this before but I am the oldest of five children, four of whom are girls. My younger sisters are frequently invited to birthday parties and often struggle with trying to find a gift that would appeal to their friends with a pricetag that matches their slim budgets.
With earrings, pendants, rings, broaches and even tiaras on sale, with prices starting at €20, a beautifully-wrapped gift arrives that didn’t break the bank!
I’m all about the little things and when my bracelet arrived with a mini packet of ‘Lovehearts’, Jasper Jewellery won me over – but let’s keep that between you and me!
What will be my next purchase?
A ludicrously wonderful Swarovski crystal parrot broach that will probably consume my entire lapel. Ah, well!
How would you describe your sense of style?
